It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of
Bill Barrett #15 (XV)
Lakeshore Football Officials Association is sad to announce the passing of William “Bill” Campbell Barrett #XV on Sunday October 9th, 2011 at age 71.
Bill has been an active member both on and off the field, sine 1965. Although he would always say it feels like a lifetime. He worked many levels of ball and rarely turned down an assignment. To show our appreciation of the work he did as a timer, builder, and fellow official, he was added as a member of the LFOA Wall of Fame, and given an Award of Merit.
Bill’s sense of humour provided his fellow officials an opportunity to enjoy the sport we love. He gained his most enjoyment helping new officials to understand their role as an official. His favourite position was headlinesman or umpire, not as the head referee, he believed in supporting the crew in the best position he could and he always did. He was a solid official and a great friend.
His contribution to officiating will not be forgotten and his ethics will live on in the hearts and minds of LFOA officials forever.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 12 noon until time of Service of Remembrance at 1 p.m. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
